In 2010, I accompanied a young Kilian Jornet whom I proposed to make a photographic report during the Ultra Trail of MontBlanc.
That same year, bad weather and a rockfall in one part of the route temporarily suspended the race until the next morning. But Kilian that same night, still wet from those first 40kms of race, decided to leave and run the next day, KIMA Trophy.
Obviously I followed him … and I could never have imagined discovering such a genuine race.
KIMA, it runs every two years and that makes her more attractive. I was lucky to be there in 2010 and repeat later in 2012, 2014 and 2016.
Following it is impossible without the help of one of the Italian helicopters that fly you along the route as if it were a taxi, in its 52kms and more than 4000m+, the route takes you not only to destroy your legs but also your arms, because there are up to seven via ferrata steps waiting you before reaching the finish line.
From my point of view, one of the races that breathe the pure style of skyrunning.
This is how I enjoy trying to photograph it:
