Transvulcania, the beautiful island

Many of us know that running is just an excuse, we like to discover new places and if it’s posible, spectacular ones.

Transvulcania runs from south to north the Island of La Palma, also known as “the beautiful island”. So, we can understand that this race is perfect for our desires.

I had the opportunity to photograph this race several times and this gallery is the result of all of them.

Everything starts in the dark. The ‘Faro de Fuencaliente’ (lighthouse) awaits the arrival of the runners who are slowly taking positions on the start line, in a few minutes full of nerves, smiles … and thousands of lights, that once the race started will illuminate the way to ‘Las Deseadas’, from there only the fastest will enjoy a magical sunrise and the company of El Teide in the distance.

The sun heats the rocks and the atmosphere is getting warmer, but even so, it becomes bearable while you are at a certain altitude. Once you get to ‘El Roque de los Muchachos’, a long descent will give you the slap needed to make you suffer and sweat until you get to Tazacorte.

Few quilometers remain until one of the most emblematic finish lines on the world of trail, the local people wait anxious to receive the winner accompanied by good atmosphere and music!
